Friday Night Heat Escape: Part Deux

Bad weather and a busy schedule have kept me away from both the grill and the blog for too long. Tonight we had some delicious filet mignon, and the results of a new method for preparing vegetables on the grill.

I cubed up some potatoes, peppers, onions and a little jalapeno, and mixed that with a about a cup of BBQ sauce. Its good to let that sit for about an hour so the sauce can start to permeate the veggies. Then you just dump it all onto a sheet of tinfoil and crimp another sheet down over the top to create a foil bag. I let it sit on the grill for about 30 minutes, while we cooked both an appetizer and the steak, and the end results were perfect. The veggies get soft and delicious without becoming mushy. BBQ sauce really helps potatoes get over their otherwise lackluster role of sitting next to the steak on your plate.

Friday Night Heat Escape

Something you don't tend to notice during the work week, sitting in your perfectly air conditioned office: it got damn hot. I mean 90F and humid hot. Too hot to cook inside. Not that you need an excuse to grill, but hey.

We cooked up jalapeno/bacon poppers, baked potatoes (cooked directly on the coals, lets see you do that with a gas grill) and some steak tips. The steak was a bit disappointing, I think mostly because I got it at Star market which doesn't have the best meat department. It just wasn't as tender as it should be. Regardless, being able to cook a meal in this heat is a good thing.

Just a Tuesday Night

Whipped up some quick, healthy eats tonight with Cassie. We had some nice free range chicken breasts soaking in a garlic and lemon marinade, and some potato salad with hot green peppers. Tasty and some leftovers for lunch time tomorrow.

Graduation Party

Had a grand old time up in Maine visiting friends and family. My little brother graduated from high school, and some good friends (Joe, Dave, Chris and Brad) graduated from college. Here's a couple shots from their graduation BBQ, which featured a keg of Geary's Summer Ale in addition to a fantastic spread of food.
